The Delhi Assembly was today
dissolved, paving the way for fresh elections that will end the political
hibernation since the AAP government fell in February. A notification issued by
the Home Ministry said that President Pranab Mukherjee has dissolved the
"Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi with
immediate effect" on November 4 The Union Cabinet had yesterday
recommended the dissolution of the Assembly following recommendation of LG
Najeeb Jung after talks on Monday with BJP, Congress and AAP which expressed
inability to form government and sought fresh mandate. The Election will be held on near by 15 February 2015.

The fight for Assembly Election

After their resounding Lok Sabha
Elections 2014 verdict, and buoyed by the impressive showing in Haryana,
Maharashtra and recently in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly
elections, the BJP is eyeing to conquer Delhi. While the fresh elections
may be held early next year, the process for the November 25 by-elections to
three constituencies, for which last date of nominations is today, was revoked
by the Election Commission today The Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet
to announce the schedule for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly Elections, but
election euphoria is in full swing in the national capital. According to
reports, the Delhi Assembly Elections 2015 will take place in February. The
Indian National Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have declared their list of
candidates. Also, all political parties including Prime Minister Narendra
Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have begun campaigning for elections
through rallies.
BJP: Narendra Modi
will launch the BJP’s poll campaign by holding a rally at Ramleela Grounds on
January 10. The campaign trail would witness active participation of key BJP
leaders like Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Jagat Prakash
Nadda and party president Amit Shah.
To woo the people of Delhi, the
Narendra Modi government granted regularisation of unauthorised colonies. In
Delhi Assembly Elections 2013, the BJP emerged as the largest party, winning 31
assembly seats out of the 70. But it fell short of the majority mark of
36. The BJP has a problem of state leadership after Dr Harshwardhan moved
to the Centre, but Modi and Amit Shah are making sure not to let this issue
become a hurdle between the party and its power. The spectacular performance of
the BJP in recent polls and even opinion poll results shows that the party may
form a government in Delhi too.
AAP: Meanwhile, to
intensifying the poll campaign, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal,
former Delhi Chief Minister, will hold 60 rallies in different constituencies
of Delhi in January. Key leaders like Kumar Vishwas, Gul Panag, Ashutosh and
Vishal Dadlani will also campaign for the party once the election dates are
announced. In a bid to woo the electorate again, AAP has already started making
promises like special status and funds for rural areas of Delhi, solutions for
the teacher community, and focus on women’s safety by promising
Wi-Fi connected CCTVs across the national capital.
AAP had formed the government in
Delhi with the external support of the Congress, despite it being on the second
spot – having won 28 seats in 2013 Delhi Assembly elections. Arvind Kejriwal
quit as Chief Minister of Delhi after just 49 days in the government.

Congress: Reeling under its worst
show in the Lok Sabha Elections in 2014 and a string of defeats in the Assembly
Elections in 2014, the Congress party is trying to regain lost ground. The
last election had brought an end to the 15-year long rule of the party led by
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The Congress managed to win just eight seats!
However, there are reports that
that former Delhi CM will not be contesting this time and will remain a “key
campaigner” for the party. The Congress immensely needs a charismatic
leader to take the party ahead but finds no one. And hence, the number of
winning candidates of the party may reduce this time.
The ECI had held a meeting to
review poll preparedness of all agencies, including the police department for
smooth conduct of the 2015 assembly polls in Delhi. The schedule is expected to
be announced very soon and parties are leaving no stone unturned to get a taste
of power
